WORLDCHANGER
Wow!!! That's about all I could mutter out when I slipped this disc into my
player and sat astonished at the overall
power, intensity, and clearity of this album. Jorn Lande, who for the most
part is an unknown in the statesbut is a mega
star over in Europe. His involvement with many of Europe's premiere
hard-rock acts such as, Millenium, ARK, Vagabond
and The Snakes is staggering and after listening
to this disc, you will understand why. First off, lets just say that his
voice is very similar to David Coverdale, only with
more bite and intesity behind every word he belts out. He can handle
ballads, up-tempo and even a bit of thrash, as
proven on the brutal "Bless The Child". This man can wail with the best of
them and come out on top.
The disc opens with the mid-tempo, epic "Tunger Knivur" and features some of
the staple signitures that Euro-metal
seems to have, chanting choruses, huge drums, and plenty of over the top
guitar to satisfy every guitar nut from
Paramus to Pasadina. Jorn's voice is thunderous on this track as he sings
about the legendary Viking sword that he
claims as a proud ancestor from the great Nordic lands. "Sunset Station"
continues the disc with a nice up-tempo
blast and a killer hook and chorus. This is the standout "single" on the
album. Imagine a new version of Whitesnake
with Metallica production values and amazing backing vocals throughout.
Throughout the album, Jorn flexs his vocal
chops, but never over does what he does best, he just lets the song guide
him and he shows that his voice is boss
while leaving plenty of room for some killer instrumentation. If any of you
metal fans who are dying for something that
harkens back to the glory days of metal, look no further than this album.
The album closes with the thunderous
"Bridges Will Burn", albiet a bit to short of an album as a whole. This
album is without a doubt one of this years best
and if there is any indication of how many metal fans still exist out there,
you will be playing it for years to come, and
maybe even pointing those devil horns with pride into the air.
