TRIBE OF JUDAH

Gary Cherone...we all know his name, and we all know his work. From the soft crooning of "More Than Words" and the hard-rocking funk blasts of "Get the Funk Out" the under-rated Extreme, to the experimental, but commercially disapointing stint with Van Halen a couple of years ago, Cherone has for the most part, been out of the limelight. This doesn't mean that the man hasn't kept himself busy, and now in 2002, he returns with his new band, Tribe of Judah, a slamming, industrial/alternative, hardrocking band with a sound very much their own. This is the sampler CD the band is issueing pryor to the release of their full legnth debut sometime this spring. The project is a breath of fresh air and is intense in every sense of the word. Cherone, who has a tremendous set of pipes, really goes for the gold, flexing his vocal chops and pushing the boundries of his abilities, all with stunning results and some pretty killer tracks to boot. The disc opens with the heavy, techno-laced, industrial "Left For Dead" (a slight jab at the whole Van Halen situation possibly), and this track is absolutely slamming from start to finish. Cherone belts out the verses in heavily effect laden tones and the kicks into his signiture melodic tone during the chorus and bridge. This band has the midas touch in all corners, the production is prestine and the tones and sounds are intense. The entire disc carries a modern, in your face mix, with plenty of sub-sonic layers deeply compressed and mixed into each track. The hypnotic, "East of Paradise" and brutally heavy "My Utopia (Anthropolemic)" are stand out tracks and listeners beware: There is a beautiful hidden track at the end of this disc, which by far has to be one of Cherone's best performances to date. Congrats Mr. Cherone, on showing the world that you still have everything it takes to make killer music and great songs. This band will undoubtebly be a force onto itself. Interested parties should go to the Tribe of Judah Website immediately and get their hands on this project. It's THAT GOOD.
