Here we have a sure diamond in the rough. Marcel Jacob was sharing some vocals on this demo and playing bass with Yngwie Malmsteen. It was one of the earliest incarnations of Rising Force. Rounding it all out was the talent of Zepp Urgard. For Yngwie fans, this is a demo that was pre Alcatrazz and Steeler. Yngwie at 17 and the other guys in the band were 16. You would never guess.
What you get are parts of songs you may know from the Yngwie years. Or should we say variations. "Merlin's Castle" has some "On the Run" moments. You even hear stuff that was used on Odyssey and the first Rising Force record. Also the famed Yngwie buzz-saw guitar (as used by Metalshop and on the Steeler debut). The other track here "Birth of the Sun" shows that the talents were sure here then! "Speed and Action" is one for the thrashers delights. "Dying Man" has playing that just blows me away. "Suite Opus III" is an Epic song that really set the standard for Swedish shred. Yngwie is an icon.
It is that in an early rawness. You flat out hear Yngwie totally ruling the world on this CD. You die-hards will pray to it.
The more information we have is the following. This was a demo that was recorded in 1980 at Thunderland studios in a Subway bomb shelter. It was originally an 8-track recording with slight dubs and the songs were virtually live. You do hear many flaws in the aging of the tape. Some of it slows down here and there. In all honesty it is nothing to be concerned with. Imagine the multi generation tapes that are out there? This is a more proper release this way with today's technology they dug up a great find and put it to CD. Six tracks in all are here. Hope they could find some other gems and save them like this one?
