BULLY
Sometimes when I see a cover of a record. I know if I'll like it or not. When I got this one, I wasn't into the cover.
I place the CD and what do I hear? "What A Drag" starting weird and mellow. Then it starts sounding trippy Beatles like pop and then a bit heavier. Tons of styles are filtering in. Then this album salutes the 90's also. "Bully" also follows the same formula. Mellow and crank it up and go back to mellow.
Again you pop listeners might dig some of what they are doing. The keyboards do add a very strange contrast to the sound for sure. The songs are sweet and have a light caress about them. Definitely not my type of listening pleasure. But in being fair, I will go on. More steals from the Beatles comes on "Mail Order Girlfriend". Some Fatboy Slim sounds come out from the speakers.
I really think they are trying to serve up what the Fab four would sound like today. Then again there are some new wave curves in it. More weird jamming follows. "Waiting" also brings up the thoughts of STP and now I'm comparing it to that. Will it do something?
