I will say it over and over again. I am not one for lighter music. I get some of these releases and try and put a bit of a mind set to what kid of music it is. Take this album from The Verve Pipe. I honestly know who they are but don't really know this bands music. In many way's that gives me a blank slate.
On the first track "Only Words" has a feel a more uplifting vibe about it. They seem to be a band trying to show heart in the lyrics and the music. It is mostly led by acoustic guitar sounds and it gently rocks.
This track "Never Let You Down" will probably splash down when more of the rock generation would dig. I'm sure your Dave Matthews, Goo Goo and Matchbox fans would like its southern feel. Or even a more Bob Dylan fan would dig it. You'll take your Oasis CD's and throw them out the window when you hear "Miles Away". I did find that Brian Vander Ark did have a pretty distinctive voice for sure.
"Local Boys" has more hard rocking moments to it. The hidden gem in this rough. "Wonderful Waste" definitely has a more jangle about its approach. I'm sure the direction of Fountains Of Wayne Adam Schlesinger didn't hurt. Another better track for sure. If you like your music more acoustic and subdued then this record might touch parts of your soul?
