This band puzzles me. What are they trying to achieve? Are they a heavy
thrash band with a female vocalist, or a female vocalist trying to be in a
thrash band, because either way you slice it, Biastfear cannot seem to make
up their mind what they want to be. First off, let me say that the
production on this
disc is top-notch for an unsigned act. The guitars are crunchy and mixed
tight, and the drums and bass are clear and well balanced throughout this
disc.
Second of all, the promo package from this band is well put together, so
that is something they definitely thought about. I think the musicians on
this disc
are good, using alot of modern, nu-metal stylings which at times remind me
of the dozens of faceless acts plaguing that scene, and at times there are
some
serious hints of Helmet's 'Meantime'. What fails to grab my attension are
the songs. I just don't hear the hooks, and to many of the lyrics are filled
with some overused cliches which could be avoided. The opening track, 'In
Throughout' is a mix of slamming, Helmet styled guitars with vocals that
sound like something folk-pop-diva Jonatha Brooke could have done. The two
just don't work. But then, on track two, 'Coming Down', Krystal raps ala
Foxy Brown, causing me to scratch my head and wonder why sudden change. I
honestly think that this band could really do something if they persue a
different, mellower style and rework their instrumentation to suit Krystals
voice, because she does have a very pretty, well balanced voice, but not for
this type of music. I do applaud them for their pro-image and packaging
though, which seems to be something TOO many bands overlook.
