KILLING THE DRAGON
Grandpa James Dio has gotten out of his rocking chair and made what appears to be a solid rock album that tens, no, dozens...of people in the Midwest and Europe will definitely dig.
Truthfully, this disc is very much a return to the kind of crunchy, riffy, songwriting that made DIO such a metal staple in the 1980s. The addition of Doug Aldrich on guitar was a wise choice by Ronnie James Dio, as this disc surpasses his last effort, the concept album Magica by leaps and bounds. It's straight-ahead guitar-driven heavy metal with ltrics about monsters, dragons, and wizards...except for "Throw Away The Children", which deals with the death of a runaway girl (nice cheery topic, eh?).
Killing The Dragon is instantly recognizable as a DIO classic, as solid as anything he's put out to date.
