Can't figure out a catchy name for your band? Hit the alphabet. Take for instance England's punk-pop outfit A; catchy melodies, memorable hooks, and seriously simple name...A.
In their latest offering, Hi-Fi Serious, A has successfully blended, punk, metal, electronica, and pop into a very paletable collection of songs that MTV is bound to pick up on...eventually. Actually, it's amazing they haven't become international heroes with songs like "Nothing". It's crunchy enough to appeal to the pissed off white kids, but hooky and hummable enough not to drive away all the girlies in the audience. The band claims that "Nothing" is their little "nod to FAITH NO MORE"... I don't know if I'd align it with FNM, but it's a strong song on its own.
Pick up this disc and check out "The Distance"...tell me they're not going for a VAN-HALEN vocal harmony thing...not to mention the fact that vocalist Jason Perry has a range like Sammy Hagar's.
They write decent songs, so if folks in the USA pick up on these guys, we could have another bunch of superstars on our hands.
