JASON GOES TO HELL
JASON GOES TO HELL marks the initial entry into the New Line Cinema/Jason Voorhees era. Rather than sticking with the old premise of "let's pitch a tent, fuck, and die", this film takes on a more supernatural tone than the rest of the Friday The 13th franchise, much to the chagrin of gorehounds across the country.
I wasn't too happy with the "Jason is just a vessel for this worm-like demon" premise, because I always thought of Jason as this freak-of-nature, one-man-killing-machine, perpetually-pissed-off-adolescent, asshole with a grudge...and now I'm being fed this horseshit about little wormy demons? Fuck that shit.
The one saving grace of this film is that it's the first of the 'Friday' films to start using expensive visual effects, and it also sets up the forthcoming Freddy Vs. Jason encounter (at the very end of the film).
