THE DOCUMENT OF METAL GEAR SOLID

This PS2 only DVD chronicles the development of one of the most successful titles of the system to date. While there isn’t really much of a “game” per se and it’s not for EVERYONE, the glimpse behind the scenes of this already phenomenal title just isn’t to be missed.

Much of the “game” is set up like a website. For example, you can decide to look at 3-D models of EVERY character in the game. Sounds exciting right? No? Not even if we throw in the ability to manipulate the camera and weather effects of EVERY cutscene in the fucking GAME? Eh, I understand. Like I said, it’s not for everyone. The chance to get really in-depth into this title, to the point where Konami explain how they distributed the PS2’s V-RAM to get the graphical effects into the game is essential for not only fans of the series but especially aspiring game designers.

As I said, there is a BIT of an actual game here. There are 5 Virtual Reality “training” missions packaged with the rest of the content. These are timed missions that test your abilities at sneaking past guards and cameras, how well you handle a blade and good old fashioned killing with a few different firearms.

“The Document of Metal Gear Solid 2” isn’t for everyone but if you played the game itself and enjoyed it, you really owe it to yourself to check this package out. At a price of roughly $20, you really can’t go wrong.
