THE END OF ALL THINGS TO COME
I will admit that Mudvayne's debut LD.50 did absolutely NOTHING for me.
Except for lead off single 'Dig', this band just sounded like a sonic
schizophrenic
mess with about as much ability to pen a tune as Helen Keller could scale
Mt. Everest. Well that being said, I was surprised when watching MTV about a
week ago and saw the video for 'Not Falling' and found myself humming that
tune right afterwards. Ok, so what to do: spend the $15 bucks for the disc
and
hope that there is more than one good track, or download the disc for free
and rip off the artist. I bought it kids, because in the end, it is VERY
important to
support these artists before they all have to go back to the nearest Sizzler
and get wait staff jobs.
To my pleasent surprise, this disc is very well done. The songs are very
well written and the the production is terrific. Granted, I could use a
little more 'singing' and a little less screaming, but these guys are very
tight and extremely good musicians (something sorely lacking in todays
industry). This disc
has a much more focused approach and they have decided to really work on the
songwriting end of things. Not to say that there aren't enough pounding
riffs and double bass drum flourishes to keep all of you miserable suburban
mall rats slamming into lockers for weeks to come. This stuff is heavy and
well done
and there are plenty of good twists to keep each track moving. Key Note:
Drummer SPUG and bassist RU-D make one of the best rhythm sections in modern
metal and are a force to be reckoned with. I only hope that this album
catches on and people listen to what is going on and stop moshing for more
than 5 seconds.
