AMERICAN EXCESS

Bluesy, but crunchy. BLACK CROWES with a taste of GUNS N' ROSES. Those are the few words that come to mind when listening to SILVERTIDE's new EP, American Excess. They hail from Philadelphia, and are serving to be the remedy for the hordes of Nu Metal outfits that are saturating radio and rock charts. While I have not seen them live yet, frontman Walt Lafty and Guitarist Nick Perri exude the same energy that AEROSMITH's Steven Tyler and Joe Perry did when they first hit the scence.

The songs on American Excess are filled with hooks, harmonies, and tasteful solos (anyone who said rock soloing had gone the way of the dodo hasn't heard these guys); evidently, there ARE sitll a few kids out there who are learning to play their instruments before trying to make it in a rock band. Considering these guys have only been a band since January 2001, the fact that they were signed to Clive Davis' J Records is nothing short of amazing.

SILVERTIDE is a band that could last a while, and produce some amazing hits. Let's pray they keep it together long enough to do so.
