SYMBOL OF LIFE

I found this band back in 1990. I jumped on the super Death Metal sound they served. Nick was damned brutal. Over those years I was happy to watch just what this was growing into. I was even lucky enough to interview this band nearly a decade ago. The last few years you had to track the imports down. I love the imports. More on that later.

Many fans wanted them to return to a more hard style and boy have they delivered. It does really kick the crap out of the last two records. I still liked those albums very much and didn't know why they were getting shit (cause their was better to come). In the last year I got the Evolve DVD and was tracking the bands every move over the last few months. Steve even posted some awesome news bits. Seems KOCH is to the rescue. Paradise Lost is a band to be heard by many ears.

I have placed this platter in more than once everyday since November 8th. Thank you Koch!

"Isolate" is so much catchier and shows much more heavy. "Erased" should be a big hit in my book! It has a heavier punch and the keyboards sound like old. They still leave room for industrial overloads lightly in there. The female vocals bring old memories back of early PL. They surely met a great middle ground of where they were going. The Goth, metal meets…Its just AWESOME! Almost like tripping in some area's kids. You could also say that this was the record that knocked out the bay area masters.

"Two Worlds" continues that beyond Depeche and hardness. This is another track that could kill on radio. "Pray For Nightfall" is one of the best songs Paradise Lost has ever written in my book. Great percussion and progression. You'll be in awe of Nick's great vocals on this record. "Primal" uses more effects and kicks the shit on Stabbing Westword and other rock industrialists. "Perfect Mask" could turn into a cool Goth hit. More awesome writing skills are laid down and you'll die when you hear some death metal vocals return slightly.

"Mystify" brings you down a bit. It is mellower and has a few changes and would be a challenge for the Marilyn Manson youth. It is a great track for that genre with the keys and all. "Self-obsessed" returns with an awesome Celtic sound and the uptempo PL returns. It is nice, heavy and memorable! "Symbol Of Life" is just the runaway hit here. It is beyond. It is such a loud new wave sounding song that builds and smacks you down hard! Very awesome. (Can you old fans take people saying this can be a hit record? It can.) "Channel For The Pain" incorporates more effects and the fast Paradise Lost shows up. They definitely have more punk on that track.

Now back to the import thing. I was desperately trying to track the import down. Everybody was out of stock. Then the weekend before its release it came from Koch. It has the two extra tracks "Xavier" and "Small Town Boy" as on the import. Limited? So my back order got released and here is the skinny on the special import package. It folds out into a cross. Those that have the import of ICON will understand. The lyrics are lightly printed in black on all boxes of the cross. Then the booklet has nice fancy paper. And the two songs are the same. Lastly it says it should play in a computer CD. I found it plays in mine? Wish I knew that before I handwrote this review. New Age Doom, The U2 of Goth, Any others?

FUCKING BREAK OUT RECORD!!!
