FREAK GUITAR
I will say this now - Mattias "IA" Eklund is simply one of the most
original new guitarist I've heard in a long time. His style is a cross between
Steve Vai, Nuno Bettencourt, Frank Zappa and James Hetfield but with such a
twist of humor that he simply defies catagorization. He is the lead
guitarist/vocalist for the Swedish band Freak Kitchen (see reviews), who
has decided to release a quirky, and often times mind-boggling solo disc
titled "Freak Guitar". A world reknowned clinician who utilizes everything from TV remotes, hose
clips, hammers and a chinese lady finger dildo to create some crazy
effects.
Yet, his songs are extremely catchy and intense with tons of layers and
cool licks flying in out of your speakers liked crazed bats. He tackles a
hysterical version of 'La Bamba' and does a lounge act version of the Kiss
anthem "Detriot Rock City", while infusing some whacky originals that have
to be heard to be believed. Steve Vai was so impressed with Eklund, that
he signed him immediately and has released this gem world over. If you need a
breath of fresh air and want to hear someone truely original, look no
further than Mattias "IA" Eklund.
