POPULATION 1
This was a bit of surprise even to me. I thought Nuno had moved to L.A. to
persue his acting muse (ahh geez). But instead, he finished his last 'solo'
album and has decided to make it as ambiguous as possible. First off, the CD
has NO mention of his name in the title and the only way you know for
certain is that the Japanese Import sleeve notes, list his name on the
title. So don't be confused. As far as the music on this disc, it's very
mellow, sublime
and introspective. A far cry from the bruising Mourning Widows band he
assembled a few years ago and released two terrific CD's. This is Nuno being
the
sad man. The disc opens with the solom "FLOW", which is stark and downright
meloncholy. The melody is very pretty and the song is actually very catchy,
but you won't catch yourself singing this one on your way to the Jersey
shore anytime soon. The disc continues with the more upbeat "Spaceman", but
from there, things get very mellow and introspective. This disc is not one
to sit through lightly. It's very mood oriented and if you use it at the
right time, it can really enhance the mood. I, for one being a HUGE
Nuno/Mourning Widows/Extreme fan, was pleasently surprised by this CD. I did
not expect it to be so
relaxed and intense at the same time, nor did I expect absolutely minimal
guitar grandstanding. Nuno simply writes songs that move you and keep you
engaged from the moment your push 'play' on your CD deck. Now the only
problem is that this disc is only available as a pricey Japanese Import
(about $30). But if you are a fan of Nuno's, I highly recommend that you
make your way to one of the on-line CD stores and get this disc. It's tough
to beat.
