MASTERPLAN

Hoofah...Marc's going to piss off a few people with this one...He basically spends the entire time slinging shit at every successful U.S. musical act. For those who aren't aware, Marc is our resident guitar hound, and has very little tolerance for most of the music that ends up being commercially successful in the United States. With that said, let the poop-throwing begin.

I know that alot of you are probably going to be asking, 'Why does this douche bag review so much stuff from Europe? Why can't I find alot of these discs in my favorite local mall?'. Well kids, let me explain a couple of things for you:

1. The music industry in the United States of America is pathetic. To give praise to no-talent hack jobs like SUN 41, ALIEN ANT FARM, THE VINES THE STROKES, THE WHITE STRIPES, and KELLY OSBOURNE is truely sad, and to see 'artists' such a JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE gain fame for being a pussy is sad. These people need to drown in their own shit if you ask me.

2. The media only focuses on PRODUCT in this wonderful nation of ours, therefor any band with any substance what-so-ever, has a slight chance in hell of gaining any sort of main stream exposure.

3. This form of music is not 'in' right now.

So, why would I review a band that NO one has ever heard of?? Because this music not only deserves to be heard, but deserves recongnition, because these types of bands are creating music that moves you and slams pretty hard at the same time. I know that the shitty bands that are envogue right now have simply NOTHING to offer, nor do I care to hear what they have to say. What I want is fist pumping, kick ass, anthem filled music that I miss so dearly. And Masterplan deliver so strongly that I just smile from ear to bleeding ear with joy.

One thing that I will say first off, is that vocalist Jorn Lande rules!!! This guy is like a screaming motor engine ready to explode. A cross between between David Coverdale/Bruce Dickinson/Rob Halford, this guy has a set of pipes that would make most of the 'singers' in popular bands quiver and shit themselves. This guy simply belts out line after line of intense emotion and melody, yet never looses his edge. The band is comprised of ex-Helloween (remember them?) members Roland Grapow (on guitar), Uli Kusch (on drums), Jans Eckert (bass), Axel Mackenrott (keys), and Jorn Lande (vocals). This band is powerhouse and fomr the crushing opener "Spirit Never Dies", the band prooves just how good they are. There is no shredding, no grandstanding instrumentation, but the songs are fast, furious, full of melody and hooks and GASP....Guitar solos (good ones too!!). The songs are so damn tight and catchy that I began singing along after the second spin of the disc. First single "Enlighten Me" is a catchy, hook filled monster followed by the even better "Kind Hearted Light". From there the disc gets heavier and more adventureous and Lande's vocals simply soar. I simply can't get enough of this guys voice and everything he has done in the past few years (from ARK to his terrific solo disc 'Worldchanger') has been stellar. Masterplan is tight, in your faced focused metal from guys who know what this sort of thing should sound like. So please, go on Amazon, CDNow, CD Universe, etc, and get yourself a copy of this disc. It will NOT disapoint.

Well, that was certainly passionate, wasn't it? I hope these bands appreciate the furious zeal Marc reviews these discs with...
