HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES

Finally, after being shuffled from major motion picture studio to major motion picture studio, ROB ZOMBIE's directorial debut, HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES has found a home with, and is being released by Lion's Gate Films. Along with the movie, comes one of the most outstanding soundtracks to ever grace a horror film...ever. You see, horror films aren't known for their superior budgets, acting, storytelling, and soundtracks...so when a disc comes along that pummels you about the head an neck like this one does, it's hard to ignore, and even harder not to kiss the ass of the guy who worked to make it what it is. That man, folks...is ROB ZOMBIE. The guy must really BE a zombie, I swear. He doesn't seem to sleep. If it's not the Ramones tribute he's working on, he's trying to find a home for his film. If it's not the movie he's working on, he's writing music for the Matrix sequel...and when he's not gdoing that, he's collaborating with none other than LIONEL RICHIE to record an updated version of the COMMODORES classic, "Brick House" for the HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES soundtrack.

There are five new Zombie tracks on the disc; "Run Rabbit Run", "Everybody Scream", "Pussy Liquor", "Little Piggy", and the aforementioned "Brick House 2003". "Brick House" is the song that stands out the most, because you don't see it coming. Yes, Zombie has made a career out of mixing chunky guitar riffs and harmonized growling with dance beats, but to re-record a song by The Commodores? That's a challenge and a half? To get Lionel Richie on the phone to talk about it? Ballsy. To actually get Lionel in the studio and re-record the vocals with you? Un-fucking-believable. The result is a very respectful, but beefed-up version of a very funky song, with Zombie tackling one third of the vocals, Richie handling another third, and rapper Trina breaking down the middle of the song. All the while, with female orgasms blasting in the background. If you buy this disc for one song, buy it for "Brick House 2003"

Also on the disc are offerings from SLIM WHITMAN, The RAMONES, and BUCK OWENS, not exactly three bands you'd normally lump together, but hey...this is Rob Zombie...and he's far from normal. In addition, the rest of the 25 tracks on this disc are made up of memorable, if not disturbing, quotes from the House of 1000 Corpses film itself.

It remains to be seen if the movie is going to do exceedingly well at the box office, but if as much work went into that as went into this soundtrack, I can't see how it could do too poorly.
