3 SONG SAMPLER
I have to say that this is just a three song sampler from NYC's AMONG THIEVES, featuring ex-BIOHAZARD drummer Danny Schuler
and ex-LIFE OF AGONY bassist Alan Robert along with Scott Roberts
on guitars and introducing vocalist Rob Brock, so I won't
be too critical of some of the production flaws on this disc. It sounds a
bit muddy and boomy and washed in too many layers of
distorted guitar. I will say that things can get a bit screwy in the
mastering faze of recordings, so I won't hold the band, nor legendary
producer Michael Barbiero. What I will say is that opening track
'Consequence' is pretty damn good and could easily garner some
serious radio airplay. Tight, melodic, and dynamic, all without sounding
like they are trying too hard. Vocalist Brock is a good singer
for this sort of alt-rock/heavy sound and I think this band has potential.
What I will say is that at times it sounds a bit too typical of
some of the current bands on the radio these days and two of the three
tracks, 'Problems of my Own' and 'Seize the Day' were fairly
boring and not a good representation of this bands combined talents. They
simply went along, had no real hook to keep you interested
and sounded a bit too much like everyone else currently sweeping radio. What
I will say on the positive is that this band does not sound
anything like any of the member's previous outfits, and that is refreshing.
Now if these guys get the proper backing, have some serious
song-writing sessions and get a killer producer to capture their sound, this
could be a band to be reckoned with. Seriously.
