STANLEY CLIMBFALL
I was a bit skeptical about reviewing this in the first place because I
hated their debut disc No Name Face. This disc is a vast improvement over
the debut and I found
quite a few stand out tracks. Opener 'Spin' is hook laden monster and really
grabs hold and doesn't let go. Lead vocalist/guitarist and primary
songwriter Jason Wade
knows how to pen a tune, but at times the songs sound alot alike (he suffers
from what I call 'Goo Goo Itis', where every song sounds like the previous
song you just heard). The disc is awash with layers and layers of guitar and
tends to make the mix a bit muddy and unfocused and some of the guitar
tracks sound almost out of tune. I guess this is a staple of newer bands
that need to cover up their musical short-comings, but I won't harp on that
too much, because the songs are well done.
'Wash' has hit potential as well, along with title track 'Stanley
Climbfall'. This band has room to grow and I am sure they will, and they
have talent no doubt, so give them a few more years and few more albums
under their belt and they will really have something to say.
