KILL BOX 13
I am one that bows to the Hammer when OVERKILL hits the town with a new effort. I seems that the newest line-up knows the dose of thrash that the true OverKill fans really need. DD and Blitz definitely know the hankering for a definite hooky catchy metal track.
Well "Devil By The Tail" opens this record in true Over kill fashion. Definitely in the vein of what the older fans would want. Nice riffs kids. The chorus is definitely supreme and catchy like. "Damned" continues the I Hear Black meets WFO sound that really gels well on this record, while keeping that sure underground vibe. Throw that finger to the nu metal and take it on heavier like the Kill can do. It shows that American metal can stimulate as well as outlast your shit MTV band!
"No Lights" has more of a majestic opening and then some nice kill grind death guitars that really shred! Dave and Derek are showing their real talents. Tim lays the true OK backbone while Blitz experiments and DD finds more ways to make it melodic and sonic.
"The One" takes on the old Over kill face and just upgrades to a new heavy expression. One of the more killer and exploratory tracks here. Killer! The soloing is sheer godlike! "Crystal Clear" will have the Sabbath and Cathedral fans bowing on their knees. Nice! Bobby the vocalist is really trying out some new vocal areas that eventually make you respect his vocal talents more than ever. It really brought back that heart attack feel you had living this live during the first six tracks.
"Until I Die" offers up a definite trip into oblivion and a real metalhead looking for metal riff will love this. Pantera fans will eat it up for sure. "Struck Down" is more of a powersurge that crashes right along and jams like Maiden never has. "Unholy" is one with even more spark and kill, kill, kill!
I really loved the harder approach to this record that oh so reminded me of the early Kill. What a great Over Kill record is what they wrote here. I'd think a true fan of this will find something they like that reminded them of different facets of the band. The influence of the newer members are one thing helping us all feel the fire that is Overkill and it still burn at the underground strong. "I Rise" also thrashes this record out and I'm happy to say it is one of the heaviest and best OverKill records to date(the first few are immortal).
