'SOMEDAY' - SINGLE
I've been into NICKELBACK ever since I heard
'Diggin This' off The State three years ago. I knew I was going to like these guys, but I had NO idea they were going to reach the monumental levels of success that they have. Chad Kroeger and co. have finally figured out how to do what it is that they do VERY well and VERY consistently...and that's write hits.
The instant I was handed the "Someday" single (
the first of the upcoming disc, The Long Road), I slammed it into the CD player, and begged for it not to suck. Well, it doesn't.
"Someday" starts off much like their hit, "How You Remind Me"; very softly and acoustically, with Chad Kroeger's raspy voice, and quickly kicks into a full-blown melodic, hooky rock track that these guys have done so cosistently on
The State and
Silver Side Up.
Kroeger's hit his songwriting side with this first single; He obviously knows how to construct a hooky song. The trick is going to be NOT falling into the rut that so many writers and bands fall into, and that's writing the SAME song over and over again.
I haven't heard the rest of the disc, just this one track, but if "Someday" is any indication of how good the rest of
The Long Road is going to be...well, then I now have one less reason to loathe Canadians.
