UNDERWORLD SOUNDTRACK
We've been reporting on this for a while, and we finally got our paws on a copy. Danny Lohner of NINE INCH NAILS has put together an amazing group of songs, and produced one seriously cool soundtrack, which is released this Tuesday, September 2nd, for the film Underworld, which is based on a comic book.
THE DAMNING WELL, which consists of ex-LIMP BIZKIT guitarist Wes Borland, FILTER frontman Richard Patrick, and Josh Freese of A PERFECT CIRCLE, offers up the first single, "Awakening". Maynard James Keenan from TOOL and A Perfect Circle comes in with a nerve racking "RCV 22:20". Then the world stops when our old friend from HELMET, Page Hamilton, comes out on bashes us with "Throwing Punches”, a track that has commercial elements but sounds like the old a bit.
MILLA is a band that sounds closer to a band known as RUBY. That was more seductive and innocent. RENHOLDER shows up here a few times and is more score like short tracks, Danny’s doing! You then get to the DAVID BOWIE track "Bring Me The Disco King", which Maynard James Keenan fills out nicely (Yes, Maynard and Bowie collaborate! WOW, what a build up on this track); The orchestration is really wild.
SKINNY PUPPY Puppy also surfaces and thier techno mashes you in the face. The riffs are cool and will probably get your head bopping. A Prefect Circle also offers up two tracks here; "Judith" and their new single, "Weak And Powerless".
DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN and FINCH offer up a few of the weirder tracks that will wake the listener out of a coma. Dillinger is a band that can wake the dead. You also get more mellow female driven tracks that takes up most of the end of this CD.
TRUST COMPANY shows a lighter-SMASHING PUMPKINS influence with "Hover". Also on this disc is THE ICARUS LINE, which sounds a lot like a fuzzed-out Kiss. In many ways a very off-kilter release that worked.
Now go see this wicked movie. Vampire or Lycan? This is a different sounding soundtrack of the dark. Watch out Danny Elfman, Danny Lohner is making soundtracks now, and setting a new standard.
