Roughly two years ago, I reviewed Life, DOPE's second (and ultimately LAST) disc for Epic Records before getting dropped. I still believe that the band made the right move with the more melodic songs and single. The fans and record company did not, apparently, and the band was let go.
Group Therapy, as this six-song sampler would indicate, is more of a return to their brutal roots. "Bitch" is definitely single material, as is "Motivation". Machine-gun drums, simple riffs, and singing, not screaming are the selling points behind Edsel Dope's latest offereing.
The one thing that got to me were the disingenuous segues by Jasmine St. Clair, who speaks unconvincingly through no less than SEVEN tracks on the disc. At one point, she's actually going down on "Johnny Big Dick" (complete with slurping sounds effects), and if I were leading this band, the only reason I would put something like that on MY record, would be if Jasmine were REALLY blowing me. If Jasmine really DID do some sucking to get on this disc, well...then all is forgiven... because as we all know, BLOWJOBS ARE ALWAYS FUN!!!!
