THE IMPOSSIBILITY OF REASON

(Yes, we are aware that FMHAMMER reviewed this back in July...but we just love when two or more writers offer up conflicting opinions on a band... like Marc did right here)

Oh my head.....this is simply some of the tightest, hard hitting, slamming metal I've heard all year (and believe me, I've heard a bunch). Not that there aren't heavier bands out there, because there are, but I have not heard anything this tight and direct since PANTERA. There are elements of thrash, speed, hard-core, blast beats, nu-metal and even some prog to boot, but what really separates this band from most of their contemporaries is the fact that not only are there songs brutally intense, but they are catchy as well (something not so easily done when your playing at a tempo above 160bpm). Opening track 'Cleansation' sets the pace with machine gun riffs, slamming double bass, and tight unison playing, as well as a shredding guitar solo by Rob Arnold (who simply rips throughout this entire disc - keep an eye out on this guy). There are moments of pure chaos, particularly on the oddly named 'Pictures In The Golden Room' and 'Pure Hatred', but nothing can stop the absolutely brilliant metal masterpieces 'Down Again', 'Overlooked' and the very poignant album closer 'Implements of Destruction' (oh those metal guys always dooming humanity). I will say that this is one of the hardest discs of the year, and rightfully so, they toured with SLAYER, have major fans in SLIPKNOT, and full backing from the heaviest label around, RoadRunner Records. Simply can't get better metal for the money. No go on kids and break furniture in your parents' house, they won't mind.
