LONG ROAD
I've said it every time I've reviewed these guys; whether it's the
The State, or
Silver Side Up, or any number of
collaborations/soundracks NICKELBACK has taken part in, I've always had a soft spot for this group of friggin' Canadians.
Chad Kroeger has established himself as one of the premier rock songwriters of the decade; The guy cranks out hooky, melodic, memorable music, the same way most middle-aged men crank out bran-filled fiberous turds. He's a hit machine, for crying out loud.
Now, undoubtedly it takes A LOT of writing for Chad to hit upon the one song that he thinks is going to propel him to mega-stardom, but he seems to hit the mark more often than not.
"Flat On The Floor", which is one of my favorites on the disc, probably has little chance of making it as a single, because it's a little too crunchy, the riff is slightly ROB ZOMBIE-ish...and the success that Nickelback and Kroeger have met with has been primarily with mid-tempo songs and ballads (like the SANTANA collaboration, "Why Don't You & I" and the Josey Scott duet, "Hero"). I tell you, though..."Flat on the floor" makes me want to put my hand through a window....and then through some old fella's cranium...because that's fun to do sometimes.
"Someday", as
previously reviewed is going to get the shit played out of it by top 40 radio...what I'd really love to hear on the air is "Believe it or not" and "Because Of You"...But chances are that I won't because they're much heavier than anything Nickelback has hit with to date.
The disc is really fantastic. Several people won't forgive you if you don't
