You might remember him as the young punker lad from Chingford, UK (ex-BIRD OF PREY) that joined IRON MAIDEN in 1978 to only leave a few years later. Some very die hard fans express how much more they liked Maiden with Di’Anno. And that is all really up to that individual.
Paul went on with BATTLEZONE who then turned into KILLERS. Paul also did have his Paul Di’Anno band, Di’Anno… I have this rare South American Assault record with Raven’s bassist John Gallager. Now in 2003 we see Paul coming back with his I think is a Norwegian band for this tour and Killers is getting ready to write. At DVD time they only had one song.
The main part of this DVD is the show from Poland on April 10th. The new incarnation of this band proves they can keep up and starts with a great rendition of the Iron Maiden classic “Transylvania”. Paul then surfaces and breaks out with “Wrathchild”. He says that he doesn’t love playing those songs today; it’s that he has to. And you get plenty of that here.
They also serve up “Marshall Lockjaw” and “The Beast Arises” from the bands Zoo Entertainment release of Murder One from the year 1992. You get a mix of Paul Di’anno, Maiden, Killers all in thirteen tracks from Poland. The even harder stuff from Menace To Society is found here in “Faith Healer”. Why should I give the whole DVD away?
You then get more from Poland on April 9th and this is a soundboard video. So the camera is head on and zooms in and out and that’s about it. I found the lightshow and the music save this five song section on the DVD. You say you want more live Di’Anno? Well here comes seven more tracks from Norway. I really loved hearing “Sanctuary” by Di’Anno today on this DVD.
It might have been cool if there was more stuff from more of his history and less Maiden, but it doesn’t hurt. “Overloaded” or “Children Of Madness” would have been different ones to see and hear. There are more bonus moments like the three mellow audio tracks “Only In My Dreams”, “Only You That This Love Needs” and the even lighter searching for you. Bio’s, photo’s, Interview footage and the kitchen sink! This is some great resume isn’t it? Two and a half hours of one of the truer originators of NWOBHM.
