THANK YOU
Just in time for the holidays, STONE TEMPLE PILOTS, currently on 'hiatus', have released
Thank You, which features eleven of the songs you know by heart and one new song, 'All In The Suit That You Wear'. Long dismissed as watered down grunge, STP has managed to do something that a lot of their contemporaries have failed to do: Stay revelant. Granted, they broke all of the rules in the process. They had in Scott Weiland, a frontman who acted like he actually wanted to be on stage and he acted out the part of rock star in every conceiveable way. More importantly, STP wrote great songs that were both sludgey and melodic at the same time. There weren't that many bands who write something as heavy as 'Sex Type Thing', 'Vasoline' and 'Down' (from the painfully underrated 'No. 4' CD) and then turn around and deliver more introspective gems like 'Big Empty', 'Sour Girl' or the still amazing 'Creep'. How good has STP's output been? There's 15 winners on this CD and I could name nearly ten more songs that couldn't been put on here also (how 'Unglued', 'Pretty Penny' or 'Crackerman' didn't make the cut is beyond me...). I really wish these guys make another record. Rock needs another kick in the balls....
