TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE

I received this disc a few months ago, right around the time The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (an excellent remake of the Tobe Hooper original, I might add) hit theaters a few months ago. It's a great compilation, and I listened to it non-stop for several days before I got a chance to see the movie. Imagine my surprise when I walked away from the theater realizing that NONE of these songs is actually IN the film.

This "soundtrack" falls into that "music inspired by the motion picture" bullshit category that many soundtrack compilations fall into (you know, those movie soundtracks that feature three songs from the film, and then nine others that are just used as filler to get the disc onto store shelves? Yeah, well this is one of those.

If you're looking for a good metal mix CD, then you should absolutely, without hesitation, pick up this disc. The songs on here are excellent fodder for thumping your head to. Check out the bands on this cd:
PANTERA
HATEBREED
SOIL
STATIC - X
MUSHROOMHEAD
SEETHER
NOTHINGFACE
40 BELOW SUMMER
MOTOGRATER
SHADOWS FALL
MESHUGGAH
FEAR FACTORY
MORBID ANGEL
INDEX CASE
LAMB OF GOD
SWORN ENEMY
CORE-TEZ

Listening to "Immortally insane" Pantera track makes me nostalgic for these guys, especially considering the members of the band can't stand one another at the moment.

The Static-X track is a great one to tenderize a steak to...or some other meat by-product, and the Mushroomhead track is full o'mushrooms... umm, no... but it's another grinder.

The disc is full of great tunes, but like I mentioned earlier, none of them are actually IN the movie (which is probably a good thing, because the movie is set in the 1970s, so a bunch of metal tunes recorded after 2000 probably would seem out of place).

The good thing about calling this the "soundtrack" to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is that more people will probably buy it and be exposed to some great tunes and bands than if they'd just call it "music to skin a racoon to"
