START SOMETHING
Wow. A group of guys who still give a shit about making great music. At a time when so many acts are getting dropped, or getting discouraged by the sagging state of affairs in the music business (at least in the U.S.), along comes LOSTPROPHETS with their second disc,
Start Something, and from start to finish, delivers the most amazing material I've heard in a long time. I ripped this disc into my
Ipod a few days ago, and haven't paid much attention to anything else since.
"We Still Kill The Old Way" opens up the twelve track disc, and punches you so hard, you can just picture these guys on stage, in front of a vibrating mass of sweaty bodies... in a concert, that is. "To Hell We Ride" is another fist-in-the-air track with a breakdown about halfway through that'll make you want to kick the mailman's head in (not that you SHOULD do that, but I considered it for a quick second).
As usual, I'm not crazy about the single they released. "Last Train Home" is a strong track, but not my favorite. I would have liked to see "Last Summer", "To Hell We Ride", or "Goodbye Tonight" show up on radio... and maybe they will if the first single takes off.
They're young guys, so hopefully they'll be able to tour their asses off and break through in the U.S., a difficult market for bands that are playing music this agressive. However, if LINKIN PARK can sell millions, there's no reason Lostprophets can't.
FAITH NO MORE fans will notice that Ian's vocal harmonies sound a lot like Mike Patton's, and they really fit the songs. Eric Valentine's production is superb, and there's no shortage of talent helping these guys out, either. David Campbell, who conducted the
KISS Symphony in Melbourne, Australia handled all string arrangements.
I really pray Lostprophets get the notice they deserve for their sophomore disc. They worked, wrote, and played their asses off on this one.
