PROBOT

I had the pleasure of jamming out to this CD while doing home improvements. Dave Grohl's PROBOT project was just something in the rumor mill for sometime. Finally, it's a reality.

Originally, the rumor was that that the FOO FIGHTER frontman and ex-NIRVANA man had a death metal band. It sorta isn’t a side project and is a more of a jam with his idols of the underground. It is one great jam on originals with singer I personally have been listing to for year with their respected bands. I just knew that Dave Grohl had the heavier in him and now it is time to shine.

If some of you might be looking for that power pop edge, it isn’t here. This is the heavier that Dave’s other bands for sure. Funny enough, the songs Dave wrote fit the singers who are singing these song (the lyrics were written by each singer also). Another cool thing is the fact that the music stayed with the influence of most of the singers present or past bands. The music really holds its own throughout. It starts off with a punk edge and then goes DOOM! The changing of gears definitely is a plus.

I must present you with a run on just who is here. Cronos from VENOM, Max from SOULFLY, Lemmy, Mike Dean from COC, Kurt from DRI, Lee from CATHEDRAL, Wino from THE OBSESSED, Tom Warrior from CELTIC FROST, Snake from VOIVOD and King Diamond. All those names alone for myself put me on the floor. Did I say all the guys I listened to over the decades? Just awesome! Another guest is Kim Thayl from SOUNDGARDEN as with others.

The record flows along quickly and I am so satisfied with it. It is great to hear this kind of music from such an established artist. Dave also took on the burden of playing all the instruments for the most part. It shows that known artists have other tastes that may not be the norm. I’d hope he does another one of these down that old dirt road. I’m glad he didn’t release a smooth jazz record, well you never know?
