YOU HAD IT COMING

The temperamental guitarist has now graced us with his presence with his second release in a little over a year. Hardcore fans who cringed at last year's Chemical Brothers-inspired 'Who Else?' will be further horrified with this one. Pay them no mind - these were the same fools who wagged their fingers at fusion masterpieces 'Blow By Blow' and 'Wired' (the last time Mr. Beck did multiple releases in a year's span). What makes Jeff Beck, well, Jeff Beck, is that he always seems to stay either ahead of the curve and with it. And that's what the so-called 'guitar purists' will never understand. Beck has always managed to upgrade his sound without pandering to the current crop of pop star-nitwits. In other words, you won't be seeing Britney and Jeff Beck performing together anytime soon. As with last year's release, Beck dives head-first into the world of techno and jungle, but doesn't sacrifice any of genius that has made Jeff Beck, well, Jeff Beck. All of the trademark squeals, squalls and greasy slide guitar runs are still there, but thanks to co-conspirators Aiden Love and Andy Wright, there's a 21st Century twist to it all that makes all sound fresh. Five decades into the game, Jeff Beck is still the man. But after all, he's Jeff Beck.
