BRING YOU TO YOUR KNEES; A TRIBUTE TO GUNS N' ROSES
While Axl Rose takes his sweet-ass time releasing
Chinese Democracy, and
suing Geffen for releasing a Greatest Hits package, a group of hardcore bands got sick of waiting, and decided to do their very own amped-up versions of classic GUNS N' ROSES tunes.
The disc features:
Most Precious Blood "Sweet Child Of Mine"
Dillinger Escape Plan "My Michelle"
Time in Malta "November Rain"
Haste "You're Crazy"
God Forbid "Out Ta Get Me"
Vaux "14 Years"
Every Time I Die "I Used To Love Her"
Unearth "It's So Easy"
Death By Stereo "Anything Goes"
The Beautiful Mistake "Estranged"
Break The Silence "Night Train"
Zombie Apocalypse "Welcome To the Jungle"
Eighteen Visions "Paradise City"
Bleeding Through "Rocket Queen"
They're all very accurate representations of the songs...to start... then each song morphs into a screaming, riffing, crunching mess of hardcore goodness. With that in mind, ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE was a great band to kick off the disc with "Welcome to the Jungle", followed by a version of "You're Crazy" that doesn't even pretend to be cute.
UNEARTH's version of "It's So Easy" sounds like the soundtrack to a japanimation feature film where a lot of androids and humans get blown up. BREAK THE SILENCE do a pretty accurate version of "Nighttrain", and MOST PRECIOUS BLOOD do not-so-sweet version of "Sweet Child O' Mine"
(I mean, Justin's my buddy, and I love the guy... but can we do some singin' man? Bah... I'll talk to him when he gets off tour)
EIGHTEEEN VISIONS does a solid version of "Paradise City" with a wild harmony solo in the middle of the song. But folks...far and away...MY FAVORITE track on this disc is "Out Ta Get Me" that GOD FORBID just took a dump all over. The vocals are buried just enough into the mix so that they're not distracting, and the guitar/drum interplay is perfect for banging one's head into one's computer...
that's my cue to start banging
