THE OTHER SIDE
After a few false starts, The Other Side is finally showing up, and it's worth the wait. This all-acoustic EP by Sully Erna and the gang is proof that they can do much more than chug along on the low E string. Vocal harmonies. Acoustic guitars. No distortion? Wow, I like it. "Running Blind" showcases Sully's ability to handle himself in a ballad, which he really does well. Just listen to "Voodoo" or "Serenity" and you can tell he's got the vocal chops for the slower stuff.
They don't completely reconstruct their music, but they give it a nice flavor by turning off the crunch and chunking out their power chords on Ovation acoustics. I would have been curious to see a TANTRIC-esque take on some of these tracks, but that might be changing the orginal too much...and we all know how much fans LOVE it when bands change shit up on 'em, right?
What would be great is if they can get some mileage out of The Other Side, and then put out a balls-out hard rock disc...one that DOESN'T sound like everything else they've put out
