THE PUNISHER
I hope to God
The Punisher doesn't blow ass in movie form, because it'll be a serious letdown after hearing this soundtrack. Just like
The Daredevil Soundtrack helped to launch the career of EVANESCENCE, Wind-Up is hoping to launch a few more acts with
The Punisher Soundtrack. Most notably EDGEWATER, with their single "Eyes Wired Shut" (which, by the way,
Marc hated). While I won't condemn the song completely, I'll say there are much stronger tracks on this disc.
First of all, hats off to DROWNING POOL for coming back from the dead... literally. Who would have thought that this band could revive itself after losing their singer, Dave Williams, tragically? "Step Up" is just as angry and agressive as the band's breakthrough single "Bodies", and Jason "Gong" Jones is a superb addition as the group's new singer. Another potential hit on this disc is "Broken" by SEETHER (feat. Amy Lee of EVANESCENCE doing a duet with her boyfriend, Seether vocalist Shaun Morgan). NICKELBACK's "Slow Motion" isn't one of my favorite tracks, but I could see radio picking up on it, because it's got the same tempo and vibe as their previous singles. "Ashes To Ashes" by DAMAGEPLAN and JERRY CANTRELL is a great, grinding, meaty track that sounds like it pays tribute to ALICE IN CHAINS with its vocal harmonies and grungy guitar tones. With "The End has Come", which features Jason Miller and Jason "Gong" Jones on vocals, former Evanescence guitarist Ben Moody proves that he doesn't need Amy Lee to write a great song with a strong hook. Rounding out the disc are tracks from STRATA, HATEBREED, and ATOMSHIP, and "In Time" by country crooner MARK COLLIE (a song that sounds much like an homage to the late JOHNNY CASH), which seems a little out of place on a rock riff-filled crunch-fest like this.
The Punisher Soundtrack is nineteen tracks total, and well worth a few missteps here and there for what could wind up being a better production than the film itself... although I really hope that isn't the case.
