SLITHER (SINGLE)
I tell you, I was skeptical as to whether this band would ever set foot on a stage, given how much time Weiland spends getting his ass locked up in rehab. However, considering
today's announcement that Weiland got himself cleared to tour, I feel totally at home gushing about this material.
WOW. WOWEE. WOWEE-WOW-WOW.
Imagine a STONE TEMPLE PILOTS guitar riff being played and solo'd over by Slash, a low-end provided by Matt Sorum and Duff McKagan, and Scott Weiland's unmistakable voice up front ...oh yeah, and throw in Dave Kushner from SUICIDAL TENDENCIES... and you have "Slither" - the first singler form the debut VELVET REVOLVER disc,
Contraband. This is a band that in my never-humble opinion, unless some Goliath mystery rock act shows up out of nowhere and blows them off the stage, will be a major force to be reckoned with at a time when we don't have that many great supergroup rock acts performing.
"Slither" kicks off with a riff that you could have easy heard Rob DeLeo playing back in STP...only with Slash's unmistakable tone chugging away. It's hummable, it's hooky, it's everything you'd want a comercially viable rock song to be. The question is, will the kiddies like it?
The song goes to radio this month, and my immediate assumption is that listeners will get off on it. The GUNS N' ROSES fans will dig it; especially those who favor the non-show cancelling, and non-crazy portion of the band. The STONE TEMPLE PILOTS fans will like it, because it really doesn't deviate too much from that simple formula. It just builds on it.
Ever since I grabbed it off
FMQB yesterday, I have not stopped playing it. It's been on a constant loop in the iPod.
Baaaaaad asssssss
