ENDANGERED SPECIES
I wasn't a huge fan of FLAW's debut disc,
Through The Eyes, but I was in a minority with that opinion apparently, because these guys have a pretty rabid following. They've won me over with
Endangered Species though. There's a lot more emphasis put on melody on hooks this time around...and singing... go figure.
The title track "Endangered Species" isn't blowing my hair back, but two tracks that I really like after the first listen are the first single "Recognize" and the heartfelt "Wait For Me", a song that yanks at the heart strings of anyone who has ever had to spend time away from home. What these guys SHOULD do, is make a video for "Wait For Me" with footage of soldiers going off to fight a war, rather than do the typical band-on-the-road thing.
I like the mix between crunch and melody, as well as the insightful lyrics. Chris Volz does a great job of shifting between growling and singing, and the David Bottrill's production (GODSMACK, MUDVAYNE, TOOL) smacks you upside the head.
It doesn't look like their tour is hitting the East Coast until later in the summer. With any luck, someone like a Godsmack will take them out on tour as an opener.
