MABOOL
Every so often, the middle-eastern side of my heritae pops out and rears its ugly head; well, the Lebanese side, I should say. I'm half Italian and half Lebanese; that's right - half mobster and half terrorist. Laugh it up. Anyway, when I checked out ORPHANED LAND for the first time (just now), I was floored. I had no idea the Israelis were rocking out...and had been for some time.
Imagine a band that is musically VERY competent - they can shred with the best of them, and blending it with traditional middle eastern instrumentation and melody. The one mainstream act to really pull this off has been SYSTEM OF A DOWN (they're Armenian, but you get the point). Evidently, there are other guys (at least one band) who are good enough to compete.
Orphaned Land have reunited after a seven year-long abscence to record
Mabool - The Story Of The Three Sons Of Seven. Can you believe that these guys actually address the fact that their CD has been forbidden in Arab countries on their
website? Sheesh, it's just music. Lighten up.
I'm not going in to a song-by-song analysis. You MUST check this CD out. No bullshit. By the time you hit "The Kiss Of Babylon", you'll be thanking me.
