CONTRABAND

Some people are going to hate me for this, but I am a little disappointed with this album. It's a good release, no doubt about it, but not what I was expecting. See, when I envisioned a band that was 3 parts GUNS N' ROSES and 1 Part STONE TEMPLE PILOTS, I was expecting something closer to GnR. To me though, it's closer to STP, which is also cool. I like STP; just not as much as I like GnR.

The riffs are awesome, Slash's solos kick ass, and the vocals harmonize well. However, with that said, keep in mind that Slash couldn't suck at guitar if he tried, and Scott has always been a great vocalist. The opening song, "Sucker Train Blues," was a great way to start off the album, but there are a few slower songs that I am not too fond of. The second half of the CD is where some of the best songs are. Songs like "Set Me Free," "Slither," and "Superhuman" are instant classics. Like I said, my only complaint is that it's not as heavy as I expected, but if I had no expectations then I wouldn't have been disappointed, so overall this is a great CD. Just don't expect Axl Rose to come out of the speakers…in fact, that may be a good thing, especially after all the weight he's gained… he might break something
